Robert Tweten

Robert Tweten has performed extensively as both a pianist and conductor throughout the United States and his native Canada. He currently serves as Head of Music Staff at The Santa Fe Opera and Music Director of Graduate Opera Studies at the New England Conservatory.

Tweten’s musical career began at the piano as a soloist, but he soon discovered a deep passion for collaboration with singers—an artistic focus that has shaped his work across North America and Europe alongside many of the industry’s leading performers.

During his tenure with The Santa Fe Opera, Tweten has conducted seven productions, most recently leading two performances of Eugene Onegin in the company’s 2026 season. A frequent collaborator with Utah Opera, he has conducted nineteen productions there since his 2005 debut. His additional conducting credits include Lyric Opera of Chicago, Calgary Opera, Vancouver Opera, Florentine Opera, Opera San Antonio, Kentucky Opera, Edmonton Opera, Dayton Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Tulsa Opera, and Sarasota Opera.

Recent engagements include La traviata with Utah Opera—where he returns in 2027 for The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs—as well as Flight, L’elisir d’amore, and Le nozze di Figaro at the New England Conservatory, and Rigoletto with Pacific Opera Victoria.

In addition to his conducting work, Tweten serves as Music Director of Santa Fe’s Festival of Song, where he curates and performs recitals featuring artists from The Santa Fe Opera’s summer roster.
